Here we go again !!In fact, on the 3rd day in school, my daughter has spelling based on the Term 2 list.
It was because English spelling is always on every Wednesday and during the last week of Term 2, the spelling was not given as usual as the school for Term 2 ended on Tuesday. So they pushed the last list to 1st week of Term 3. *roll eyes*
On tuesday (30/6), when my daughter told me she had spelling to be tested the next day (1/7), I told her it's impossible because the NEW list was given out on tuesday only. But she insisted her English teacher had reminded them to learn.
So I paused and thought for a moment and remembered the children were not tested on the last list for Term 2. So I chose only 5 words which I think should be easy for her to learn and she got them all correct.I think the rest of the words are ridiculous for a K2 child !
Don't you think so ... or is it just me ?
Anyway, for this Term 3, I shall remain the same, not to force/stress her to learn all the words.

OMG.. the spelling list is very long and it indeed very tough for a K2 student!
So tough n so many words. *pengsan* Luckily my girl oni has 5 words made up of 3-4 letters. It's really great that u're not forcing her to rmbr all. Really too much lah.
aiyo....sooo tough lar....
the spelling bery tough for k2 kids!
faint.. stress...
Hi Ling,
Did the school explain the logic behind such a spelling list? Are the children taught about the meaning, example like in a story or just plain spelling words for the sake of spelling?
It's tough on K2 children.
astee
Hi Astee,
Yes, we did complain about the hard words and the Adminstrator explained that is what a K2 child ought to know! faint !!
yes they do explain the meaning. For example, this whole week they are studying about natural disaster, then next week, they are tested on the spellings.
But still, I think is hard on the poor child !
This is what a K2 child ought to know!!?? That's scary.
Glad you're not forcing her - might just take away the joy of learning.
Very difficult indeed. That's why Singapore has a higher standard of English compared to us.
